Award Summary InformationAn expert in aerospace reŽsearch. His contributions resulted in the solution of complex problems associated with the design of subsystems for aerospace vehicles. from the accuracy of gun platforms to the accuracy of the space vehicle navigation. He, in cooperation with another officer, developed a space sextant for use in space navigation. He also deŽsigned and patented an instrument, called a space stadiŽmeter, which could measure the altitudes of a space vehicle above any near celestial body. Both of these instruments were successfully flight tested on Gemini flights IV, V!, VII, and X Major Jorris was primarily responsible for the training of the astronauts in the use of these instruŽments, including Astronauts Borman and Lovell on the Apollo X mission. As a fire control systems specialist for the AC-130, Major Jorris assisted in the checkout of initial cadre crews for the new weapons system and initiated design changes to improve the fire control system. He designed of an optical bore sighting instrument for the AC-130 which could accurately bore sight the side-firing guns without firing them or flying the airplane. His system was found to be easily adaptable to any side-firŽing weapon system. Producing Air Force Cost Reduction figures of $2.8 million dollars.
